Wow---what a great night! We raised over $10,000 last night thanks to all those who came out and participated in the silent auction or just made donations! We are still processing payments so the total is not final yet.

If you paid with credit card last night, please be aware that your payment is being processed through "firstgiving.com" so you'll receive an email statement from that site but the funds will go directly to "Meals from the Heartland".

Remember: Tutus, teddybears & goodie bags, chocolate covered strawberries, and truffles will still be for sale through Saturday, February 13! Great chance to get your sweetie a Valentine's gift and know the money is going to feed people in Haiti.

"Hearts for Haiti" is a fundraiser to support Meals from the Heartland

We are grieving for the people in Haiti. The earthquake has devastated an already impoverished nation. We want to do something, anything, to help the Haitians begin the healing process.

Meals from the Heartland is a local nonprofit organization that has sent millions of meals packaged here in Des Moines to Haiti and other nations over the past two years. This food is actually saving lives in Haiti right now.

“In December we were given about 100 boxes of food from your organization from Tina Eisnhower. We were planning on using it towards VBS's and soccer tournament we have planned. However, as you know, an earthquake devastated many parts of Haiti. Jacmel is one town that has been hit hard. The road from Jacmel to Port-au-Prince is impassible with cars, tap-taps, and trucks. There are no supplies coming in and we don't know when the road will be fixed. We have been able to feed hundreds of people daily since the earthquake because of your food.” ----emailed from a missionary in Jacmel, Haiti

Meals from the Heartland is planning an emergency event on February 22 to package meals to send directly to Haiti. They are trying to raise funds now to buy supplies and pay for transportation.

We are hosting a Hearts for Haiti fundraiser on Friday, February 5 at the Copper Creek Golf Clubhouse in Pleasant Hill. The event will be open to the public and will include live music, hors d'oeuvres, cash bar, silent auction and Valentine's Day gift boutique.

We are asking for your help in the way of:

spreading the word! Use facebook, twitter, email, snail mail, pony express, smoke signals, whatever it takes to get the word out
donations of goods or services to be used in the silent auction
attendance! come to the event!!!!!
*Right now we are still looking for just the right musician(s) who are will to donate their time and talent to make the event extra special. Please let us know if you or someone you know would be interested.

*We are also hoping to get the catering donated!

All proceeds will go directly to Meals from the Heartland, which will then go directly to Haiti.
